[ID Hospital Remembers] In Remembrance of the Sewol Ferry Tragedy 04.16.14

It is with a heavy heart that many people in Korea and throughout the world remember the lives of so many lost with the sinking of the Sewol Ferry on April 16, 2014. Many of the 304 victims were high school students from Danwon High School in Ansan, south of Seoul, on a field trip.

This tragedy, which scarred the heart of the Korean nation, will be remembered through various memorial events planned throughout the day today. Though the anniversary is just one day out of the calendar year, it is a poignant reminder that for so many friends and relatives grieving the loss of a loved one, this is a day out of many days past and to come, of yearning, longing, missing.

Even for those of us who did not have a personal connection to the victims of the Sewol Ferry disaster, what we can do is remember and honor the victims today, to take a moment of silence to commemorate or to pray for those lost and those living daily with unspeakable loss, and above all to live each day to the fullest as a tribute to those whose hopes and dreams were cut short.

To those lives lost on this day one year ago, we will never forget you.
