How to get the perfect V-shaped chin?

A lot of people wish their chin was a bit sharper and the chin can actually be made sharper with genioplasty.

Genioplasty (also known as Mini V-linesurgery) is a type of surgery done on the chin. It is considered an aesthetic surgery performed by a maxillofacial surgeon under general anesthesia.

Genioplasty surgery method is used to narrow, shorten, elongate, push forward or bring the chin area backwards. T-osteotomy is the basic method used for resecting the bones, but the surgery can get customized depending on the individual’s bone structure.

Nerve Lines and muscles

The inferior alveolar nerve supplies sensation to the chin and lower lip and teeth. Great caution must be taken not to cause any damage to the nerves as it can lead to permanent nerve damage.

The mentalis muscle is attached to the chin. It is detached during surgery for the osteotomy and must be re-attached with caution.

What is T-osteotomy method?

T-osteotomy method was developed by ID Hospital, and published in various plastic surgery journals.
The method involves resecting the bone horizontally and leaving a small part of the bone intact. The bones are then shaped and fixated with titanium screws and this surgery changes the shape of the chin.

The surgeon checks your chin length, width and nerve lines location. Then the length of the philtrum and chin are compared to check if your chin is long or short. Since the incision area is inside the mouth, the stitches will not be visible to others, and the scars heal fast.

The type of chin you have determines the osteotomy method most suited for your chin.

Wide and round chin: T-osteotomy is performed and a small section of the bone is removed. The remainder of the bones are attached together and fixated with pins and screws.

Long chin: Along with the basic T-osteotomy method and additional horizontal piece of bone is resected to remove the excess bone.

Protruded chin: Along with the basic T-osteotomy method, the protruded bone is resected and the tip of the chin is brought backwards to balance the chin shape.

Short chin/Receded Chin: For the short chin, the bone is resected, the fixated with pins to elongate the chin. With the receding chin, an extra step is performed to advance the chin forward to its normal position.

Asymmetric chin: With the asymmetric chin, the amount of bone resected from each side will differ. The surgeon has to make measurements to assure as much symmetry as possible.

As with all surgeries, having a Board-certified plastic surgeon perform your surgery will get you the best results the first time around.

4 Tips to help you when selecting a facial contouring surgeon

Too many doctors…and you can only select one for your surgery.

How do you go about making that selection?

We put together a criteria list of important information to check about your surgeon before going under the knife.

1. Research

We cannot stress enough how important research is. Research involves checking credentials, checking previous patients’ results and asking questions.

A board-certified plastic surgeon is completely different from a cosmetic surgeon so you have to make sure that the selected surgeon is qualified and experienced to perform your surgery. The surgeon should be able to give you the best results with the first surgery only.

Another point it, learning what the procedure entails and getting answers about any questions you have during the face to face consultation with the surgeon.

The questions can include surgery procedures, anesthesia, surgery duration, post-surgery care etc. and should be addressed to the surgeon directly. Take notes if you have to during the consultation, so you have all the information you need to make an informed decision.

2. Anesthesia

A board-certified anesthesiologist should administer the anesthesia and monitor your condition throughout the surgery duration. You have to make sure that an anesthesiologist will be present and is trained to take action if required.

If you are taking any medication or have any disorders or symptoms, for your own safety you have to make sure to disclose your medical history.

3. Surgery facilities

People may not think of the surgery facilities being important, but a clinic needs to have the proper space and facilities for surgery with trained staff members. You can check if you will stay overnight, and what services are offered by the clinic to care for you post-surgery.

4. Dealing with surgery results or medical emergencies

Post-surgery care is just as important as the surgery itself. Be sure to check how they will resolve post-surgery issues. Another important part is checking what would happen in case of a medical emergency. Surgery complications, although not so common, can still happen, so make sure that you are in good hands.

As with anything in life, proper planning is crucial so take the time and consider all your options.

FFS Results - Gabbie's 6 months post-surgery results at ID Hospital

Gabbie visited ID hospital 6 months ago to have her FFS procedures. During her 1 month post-surgery interview, she still had some swelling.

We caught up with her at the 6 months post-surgery mark, to check her progress.

ID: Hi Gabbie! It’s been 6 months since you had surgery, so tell us how did you progress after you left Korea? How was the healing process?

Healing was very gradual. Since I had V-line surgery and Cheekbone reduction surgery (facial contouring surgery), I had a lot of swelling.

The doctors had explained that to me prior to surgery so I was just focusing on healing. Every day I could see my face getting smaller and more defined so I knew that I just needed to be patient.

ID: How do you feel after having your surgeries? Are you satisfied with the results?

I am very satisfied with my surgery results. In fact, I am planning to go back for additional surgeries. That’s how much I trust ID hospital to make me look more beautiful.

ID: Have the surgeries improved your confidence the way you imagined?

Very much! Before surgery, I hated putting my hair up, I just didn’t like the way I looked. Now I love trying new hairstyles, tying my hair up. Etc.

ID: How did your friends and family react after seeing your surgery results?

They noticed right away how my face became more feminine and my facial features became more defined. Especially the nose! I love the way I look now.

ID: Do other people notice you have had surgery? Do you talk about your surgeries to others?

Yes, they do notice the change. The surgeries have made me more beautiful and yes, I do discuss it with others because I simply love the surgery results.

ID: Will you have more surgical procedures?

Yes, absolutely. I want to get a lifting procedure like my doctor had recommended and some fat graft.

ID: Would you recommend ID Hospital to others, and why?

Absolutely!!!! ID hospital is the best hospital! No questions about it.

ID: Any tips for patients coming to Korea to have surgery for the first time?

It is important to find a hospital that can really change you for the better. ID hospital surely has a lot of specialist doctors to help you achieve a natural, fabulous face, the surgery results speak for themselves.

ID: What would you like to say to other patients? Any messages you would like to share?

Don’t just trust any hospital. Trust ID hospital. I am a living proof of how my life has changed tremendously. My face looks better than I ever imaged, beyond my wildest dreams and I am happy to have had my surgeries there.

Just like Gabbie, you can also change your life and finally feel comfortable in your own skin, with FFS. ID Hospital is the top plastic surgery Hospital specialized in FFS. Contact us here for an online consultation.

Top 5 FFS procedures to make you look more feminine

With the popularity of FFS procedures continuing to rise, it only makes sense for anyone interested to research more on the surgeries.

Reading a lot of information online can be beneficial but having too much information on anything will leave you indecisive.

The goal of having FFS procedures is to make you look more feminine, but how invasive of a surgery you need depends on what type of look you are going for. (Both CIS women and MTF transgender women can have FFS).

To narrow it down, we will focus on the top 5 surgeries that give the best results for FFS.

1. V-line surgery

V-line surgery is a combination of mandible angle reduction and chin genioplasty surgeries. The mandible angle reduction reduces an angular jaw bone, creating a softer, feminine facial contour.

A common misconception is that the surgeon operates using the same techniques on all patients, but as with every surgery, it is customized according to the individual’s facial proportion and their desired aesthetic.

So you can have natural results or more “dramatic” results based on your ideal look.

This surgery really alters the facial proportion and makes the face very feminine.

2. Rhinoplasty

A masculine nose is quite large and the nose bridge is prominent. Rhinoplasty is a procedure most FFS patients have to undergo in order to match their nose to their new jaw shape.

If someone already has a small jaw and chin, but the nose quite prominent, getting rhinoplasty will soften the features.

3. Forehead reduction surgery

There are many differences between the male and female forehead and brow bone area. In some cases, a masculine forehead can make the whole face look quite masculine even if the rest of the features look feminine.

A feminine looking forehead is rounded, with a soft roundish hairline. A forehead reduction surgery will bring the hairline lower and change the shape to match with the rest of the facial features.

If the brow bone is too prominent, addition fat graft can be added 3 months after the forehead reduction surgery.

4. Cheekbone reduction surgery

Western beauty standards celebrate prominent cheekbones. Whereas on some women, it looks beautiful, for others, it makes the face appear wider than it is.

Cheekbone surgery is used to reduce the protrusion of the cheekbone hereby making the face look slimmer.

5. Fat graft

For many, fat graft looks like a win-win situation.

Removing excess fat from your own body and placing it on your face sounds like a good deal.
The amount of fat removed is not a lot though. The fat is taken from the abdomen area or thigh and purified and inserted into the desired areas.

Fat graft is a surgery that anyone can benefit from whether male or female, young or old. The lost volume is replaced, making you look younger and vibrant.

How do you know if you need plastic surgery?

As a human being, we can find many reasons why our lives aren’t the “perfect” life we envisioned for ourselves. We have all been there.

Just like there is no “MAGIC” pill for fat loss, surgery is not “MAGIC”.

It is the right thing for many people and not the answer for many.
So how can you evaluate whether you need surgery to improve your confidence?

Here are a few questions to ask yourself before going under the knife.

Why do you need this surgery?

Getting surgery is not only physical, there are psychological aspects to it too.

Have you figured out why you need to have surgery?

Bullying is not a good reason to get surgery. If you are getting bullied and think getting surgeries will stop the bullying, then you need to think again.

Get to the root of your emotional problems and when you are at a healthy positive place, and then you can consider getting surgery to be the best version of yourself.

Will this surgery impact your life positively?

Is it a long time insecurity of yours that needs fixing?

The hump on your nose, the double chin, wide jaw etc. are the only problems that need your immediate attention?

Will getting the surgery help you focus better in life and give you the positive energy you need to propel yourself forward?

Dig deep and find the answers.

How is your emotional health before surgery?

Everyone suffers at some point in their lives with a low self-esteem or low self-confidence; it is nothing to be ashamed of.

Working on your emotional health before surgery, and even getting some counseling before surgery can help you figure out if you are getting surgery for the right reasons.

Do not be harsh and overly criticize yourself for your looks, as they can be improved. Improving your attitude towards life and your emotion well being takes time, so make you’re your heart and mind are in the right place first.

Can you afford to have surgery?

Getting your finances in order is important, especially when considering surgery.

If planning to have surgeries overseas, financing options or credit card payments should not cause a strain on your financially after surgery.

You need that post-surgery time to rest and relax to heal well, so create a surgery budget and stick to it.

Will you have enough time, space and patience to heal?

Going into surgery with the right attitude is important. You have to understand that having surgery means your body needs time to heal.

People are impatient and start complaining, get scared or panicky right after surgery, not realizing that you need to be in the right frame of mind for proper healing.

Take time off work, have family or friends around you for emotional support and let your body heal. Follow all the instructions and maintain a positive attitude and you will find yourself one step closer to full recovery.
