How do you know if you need plastic surgery?

As a human being, we can find many reasons why our lives aren’t the “perfect” life we envisioned for ourselves. We have all been there.

Just like there is no “MAGIC” pill for fat loss, surgery is not “MAGIC”.

It is the right thing for many people and not the answer for many.
So how can you evaluate whether you need surgery to improve your confidence?

Here are a few questions to ask yourself before going under the knife.

Why do you need this surgery?

Getting surgery is not only physical, there are psychological aspects to it too.

Have you figured out why you need to have surgery?

Bullying is not a good reason to get surgery. If you are getting bullied and think getting surgeries will stop the bullying, then you need to think again.

Get to the root of your emotional problems and when you are at a healthy positive place, and then you can consider getting surgery to be the best version of yourself.

Will this surgery impact your life positively?

Is it a long time insecurity of yours that needs fixing?

The hump on your nose, the double chin, wide jaw etc. are the only problems that need your immediate attention?

Will getting the surgery help you focus better in life and give you the positive energy you need to propel yourself forward?

Dig deep and find the answers.

How is your emotional health before surgery?

Everyone suffers at some point in their lives with a low self-esteem or low self-confidence; it is nothing to be ashamed of.

Working on your emotional health before surgery, and even getting some counseling before surgery can help you figure out if you are getting surgery for the right reasons.

Do not be harsh and overly criticize yourself for your looks, as they can be improved. Improving your attitude towards life and your emotion well being takes time, so make you’re your heart and mind are in the right place first.

Can you afford to have surgery?

Getting your finances in order is important, especially when considering surgery.

If planning to have surgeries overseas, financing options or credit card payments should not cause a strain on your financially after surgery.

You need that post-surgery time to rest and relax to heal well, so create a surgery budget and stick to it.

Will you have enough time, space and patience to heal?

Going into surgery with the right attitude is important. You have to understand that having surgery means your body needs time to heal.

People are impatient and start complaining, get scared or panicky right after surgery, not realizing that you need to be in the right frame of mind for proper healing.

Take time off work, have family or friends around you for emotional support and let your body heal. Follow all the instructions and maintain a positive attitude and you will find yourself one step closer to full recovery.

We care about your health and well being, so contact us anytime through social media or get an online consultation here.

Are you a candidate for ptosis correction surgery?

Ptosis is a condition that causes the upper eyelid to be droopy and covers part of the pupil. The droopy eyes makes a person look tired or sleepy, so ptosis correction surgery is required.

How to know if you are a candidate for ptosis correction surgery?

With the example below, her whole pupil is not visible on both eyes. Moreover, the level of droopiness varies in both her eyes.

She needs not only ptosis correction surgery, but additional blepharoplasty (double eyelid surgery) in order to remove the excess skin and fat in her eyelids.

There are many types of ptosis correction surgery, but if it is a cosmetic surgery, then the weakened levator muscles (levator aponeurosis) are the cause of the drooping eyelids.

The levator muscles are used to raise the eyelid, so when the muscles are weak, the eyes cannot be opened completely. A person could be born with weak levator muscles or the muscles can weaken due to age. Children who have ptosis tilt their heads backwards to be able to see well. This does not solve the problem.

If left untreated, as is the case with many patients, the forehead muscles are used to lift the eyes, which can cause a lot of strain, and wrinkles in the forehead area with time.

Surgery may be performed along with blepharoplasty, to get rid of the excess skin and fat, and have a proportional eyelid crease.

For patients who have ptosis, but prefer to have double eyelid surgery only, the results will not be satisfactory. The ptosis correction surgery is necessary to resolve the eyelid droopiness.

The ptosis level is determined by the distance between eyelid and pupil. For mild ptosis cases, non-incision surgery may be possible but for severe ptosis cases incisional surgery is recommended.

The surgeon has to examine you in person to know the ptosis level and surgery plan to correct it.

Anesthesia: Surgery and Post-care

Anesthesia is used to induce a temporary state of unconsciousness, to have a surgical procedure without feeling any pain.

There are 2 main types of anesthesia used by ID Hospital for surgeries.

General anesthesia: suppresses central nervous system activity and results in unconsciousness and total lack of sensation. This is used for facial bone surgeries, some lifting surgeries and breast augmentation.

Local anesthesia with sedation: blocks transmission of nerve impulses between a targeted part of the body and the central nervous system, causing loss of sensation in the targeted body part. Sedation is administered at the same time to put the patient in a temporary state of unconsciousness. This is used for surgeries which do not require general anesthesia.

The type of anesthesia required by the patient is evaluated by ID Hospital’s board-certified anesthesiologistsThey assess the patient’s condition to select the appropriate anesthesia drug for safe surgery.

Stationed 24 hours and be responsible for our patients’ safety
id Hospital’s Safe Anesthesia System

For the safety of our patients, our board-certified anesthesiologists stay with patients throughout the entire surgery process, from before surgery to full recovery after surgery. Moreover, with our high-tech equipment that can monitor patients’ condition, we provide safe environment throughout the entire surgery process with a thorough safety control.

Safe Surgery Management

Prior to entering the surgery room, we use air shower system used in university hospitals for sterilization up to 99.9%. Using a central control system, we check all patients’ condition multiple times during surgery to ensure the patient will have a safe surgery.

Patients usually get nervous or afraid before surgery, so ID Hospital uses anesthesia preparation room for such people. In the room, patients meet their anesthesia specialists and nurses for their surgery, and they go to sleep after everything is prepared.

Post-surgery, the patient is moved to a recovery room and then to the ward. If the patient has undergone general anesthesia, they are instructed not to fall asleep or drink water for 6 hours, until the effects of the anesthesia are gone.

Post-surgery instructions are given and a translator will go over the instructions with you, about the following:

1.      The medication, and the cleaning process for the surgical area
2.      The level of activity allowed and what is not allowed
3.      What types of foods to eat
If you are not sure about any of the information given, ask questions and do not leave without making sure you understood all the instructions.

Steps to follow for a faster recovery post-surgery!

Patients’ main concern about having surgery is the recovery time. Individual have to go back to work or school, and want to look as normal as possible when resuming their normal routine.

Bruising and swelling post-surgery is inevitable, and the level of swelling differs from person to person. There is no way to know in advance, how your body will react to surgery (unless you have previous surgery experience) but it is not a reason to shy away from having surgery! We have a few pointers you can follow below to ensure, you have the fastest recover possible!

1.  Follow Post-surgery instructions: Patients receive post-surgery care instructions before getting discharged, so make sure to take a look at it and ask any questions before leaving. You can also request for the post-operation manual from the online consultant, if you want to know in advance what to anticipate.

2.   The sleeping position is very important, and the instructions should be followed for safety reasons and this will also help reduce the swelling.

3.   Follow the instructions for using the ice/hot packs, as these will help alleviate swelling faster.

4.   The sooner you can, it is advisable to take light walks to help reduce swelling. This is one of the fastest methods, but do not overdo it, light walking only.

5.   Sauna/steam room, exercise should be avoided for a month after surgery, in some cases longer. Smoking and alcohol should also be avoided, as they can impact the recovery time and can also lead to an infection.

6.   Certain foods help patients heal faster. Chewing may be difficult after some surgeries so liquid/soft foods are advised for few days after surgery. In Korea, pumpkin juice and soup/porridge are said to help reduce swelling but patients can also have liquids like protein shakes, fresh fruits and fruit juices, and transition to soft foods as time goes by.

7.   ID Hospital offers patients post-operative care treatments to heal the swelling reduce, which are very helpful for patients. In addition, patients may also choose to purchase from a range of ID AZ products designed by ID Hospital to help patients heal faster.

On the whole, surgery may be daunting for some, but with ID Hospital, one can rest assure that they will receive all the necessary care throughout the surgery journey.

Purpose of Online Consultation

ID Hospital offers online consultation through different channels like email, Whatsapp, line, kakaotalk, posting on the website etc., to assist the patient to get an idea about the type of surgeries they require with estimated price quotes.

Things patients have to keep in mind about online consultation:

1.     The online consultation offer surgery recommendations based on photos sent to the consultant, but the doctor’s recommendation may differ at the actual consultation appointment. If the recommendation differs, the price also differs, so patients should keep that in mind when doing the online consultation.

2.     The price quotes given are the starting point (basic) but if the patient requires a more complicated surgery process, the surgery price will increase, so that is something to keep in mind, especially if the patient has had an accident and is having a reconstructive surgery.

3.     Revision surgery: online consultation for revision surgeries is very limited, due to the patient already having surgery performed on that area, through pictures or X-ray, surgery possibility cannot be confirmed. A face to face consultation is required.

4.     The recovery time for various surgeries differ, so if you decide to have different surgeries from the ones initially recommended, make sure to let the online consultant know. For example, forehead implant surgery requires 1 week for the implant to be customized, so surgery is done one week after consultation, so the patient has to stay for 2 weeks in Korea, but if doing other surgeries like V-line surgery, then the total duration of stay will increase to 3 weeks.

5.     Potential patients have to make sure to disclose their medical history details and allergies before making a surgery booking. If a patient leaves out important information during the online consultation, and during the pre-examinations, the hospital finds out they have a medical condition that prevents them from having surgery, surgery will be cancelled and deposit will not be refunded. So please always mention all details related to medical history and allergies.

Do feel free to contact us on any of our contact details below for a free online consultation~~
