Hello everyone.

From elementary school, I experienced severe malocclusion which resulted in protruding chin. I visited university hospitals and dentists in Japan for consultations and I was advised to receive orthodontic practice (to have braces) for 5 years and then to have orthognathic surgery. I thought this to be very cumbersome and time consuming. But then I found ID Hospital and their unique surgery method called the surgery first approach so the patient receives the surgery first and then have orthodontics. ID Hospital is widely known for its expertise  also in Japan for its specialization in facial contouring and orthognathic surgery!

I had my consultation with Dr. Sang Hoon Park. He told me that the overall size of my face isn’t too big but it's the length of the chin that is making my face look very long. He kindly explained me about the symptoms I had with the CT and X-rays. Since the degree of my protruding chin and the malocclusion were quite severe, he told me that I could have effective results for both functionally and aesthetically by undergoing orthognathic surgery and V line surgery. And I decided to receive the surgery right away.

Right after the surgery it was very difficult to breathe for about 6 hours and my throat felt really sore. And I had major swellings then but I was very happy to see my face with the improvements of the malocclusion. It was surprising!! 

1 week after surgery! I also had blocked nose after surgery but it was gone by the time and I could breathe through my nose more comfortably and easily than before. The swelling care that was provided by the hospital had been very helpful for me to de-swell.

2 Weeks had flown after surgery. The swellings reduced a lot and I was incredibly happy to see my jaw corrected, and also the face getting smaller and smaller. After my departure to Japan, I couldn't wait to see my parents and friends!

This is week 3 after surgery. It was my last visit to the hospital for treatments, interview and to have my after surgery photos taken. Every time I looked in the mirror, I felt so different and couldn't remember my old face at all.

One month later, most of the swelling had lessened. When I returned to Japan, my parents were so delighted to see me with my symptoms improved. As for the meals, I took soup based food until then but was able to enjoy a more variety of softer food afterwards. I had a bit of trouble speaking comfortably so had to put extra efforts to exercise my muscles to pronounce and talk.

It had been around 2 months after surgery. Nearly all swelling had gone away and was finally able to speak well from then on.

Now it is 6 months after surgery and have no difficulty in living my daily life. I'm feeling great with the results that I take a selfie every day. And I went to ID again to have rhinoplasty to have smaller and more defined nose. Once again, I'm extremely satisfied with the surgery outcomes and I can't wait to see my nose without the swellings!

Improve your lifestyle which causes a facial asymmetry!

In Korea, people spend considerable time on the chair. According to survey called ‘statistic of national health 2014’ conducted by Ministry of Health and Welfare, the average hour being seated of adults is 7.5 hours.

 

Especially, young adults whose ages are between 19 and 29, they averagely spend 8.7 hours on the chairs.

 

This sitting habit induces some issues. Especially, when you remain seated for a long time, some life style habits, such as twisting legs and resting chin on the hands, stimulate your facial bones and muscles and they ruin your body balance and can be a reason to have a facial asymmetry.

 

In addition, when you chew hard food in one side and lean on one foot, these habits also can be main causes to have facial asymmetry and malocclusion.

 

Facial asymmetry and malocclusion can be improved by orthodontic treatment and orthognathic surgery. If you have minor symptom, your malocclusion can be corrected by orthodontic treatment only, but if your symptom is severe, you might need orthognathic surgery.

 

To prevent any malocclusion, you should try to keep a correct posture. When you sit on the chair, try to straight up your back and lean your back on the back of the chair and walk for a while or do some stretches once every hour.

Hello ~ :) This is my 6 month post-op pictures~

I heard that to everything settle down, it roughly takes about 6 months.

on my 5 month post-op, I saw my X-ray picture. the bone wasn't exactly attached fully. but my surgeon explained by making comparison with my old pictures. it was healing very well. :)

Recently, I am getting used to my new look. I don't think I have swelling anymore.

 Before the surgery

I had braces when I was young, it ended up becoming one of the reason that has caused this developed lower jaw.

My orthodontist recommended me to have braces only on my upper teeth when I was 14. I don't know what went wrong but as a result, it has caused a malocclusion and long jaw.

I have decided to undergo two jaw surgery to correct my long face as well as prominent chin, malocclusion and facial asymmetry. Above are the photos taken before the surgery. As you can see from the photos, my face is quite long in general and my left and right face are slightly different.

 Surgery day

I went to the hospital early in the morning. After changing my clothes, I've met my doctor and senior consultant. I had an air-shower before entering the surgery room. I was lying down on the bed and an anesthetist asked me if I'm scared. She says I might feel some weird sensation and then, shortly I fell into a sleep.

Then someone suddenly woke me up and surgery was already finished. I was being carried to the recovery room. I felt like I only had 5 minutes sleep.

I had some fever and headache on the surgery day. Nurses were taking care of me good and asked me to breath out all the anesthesia gases. But I kept falling a sleep when they are gone.  haha

I didn't have too much discomfort in the evening, but sputum on the throat was kinda annoying.

I've called nurses every hour to have suction.   

 1 week after the surgery

I had my first post treatment and swelling care session.

I've had swelling care at Face-diet and had the stitches behind the ears removed.

I didn't feel much pain when the stitches were removed. I've heard that I can resume brushing teeth, using children's toothbrush carefully.

Wafer has to be removed and cleaned when I gargle.

It seems like I don't have much swelling or bruising compared to other patients.

I wanted to say thank you to Dr. Jong yoon Kim, who performed my surgery but I realized he wouldn't understand anyway, as I have a wafer in my mouth.

I've heard that now I can eat food like silken tofu, steamed egg, chopped noodle and soft fish.  So I went to the Ramen place straight away. haha

 1 month from the surgery

I've started post orthodontic treatment at ID dental hospital.

I also went to plastic surgery side to check with my doctor. As you can see from the photo, there are some swelling left around my face, considering that I originally have almost no fat.

But I'm enjoying this phase because it makes me look younger~

 2 months from the surgery

It's already been two months from the surgery.

The doctor says I still have some swelling left. And my philtrum will become more smaller.

My lips look a bit strange for now. I will try my best to reduce the left swelling and focus on getting taking care of braces properly.

 3 months from the surgery

When I read other patients' reviews, they feel a bit strange looking at their old photos.

But I feel very comfortable for both, my old and new face. haha

I thought this was going to be the only surgery I have, but since I've become to have smaller face, I  want to get another ones.. now I understand girls. 

I eat almost anything, except really chewy dried fish or squid. I think I can eat but I personally don't like them anyway. I still can eat thin ones, just avoiding very thick and hard ones.

I have this new habit that walking around holding toothbrush all the time, because of braces.

 6 months from the surgery

It's been 6 months! I'm sure all swelling are gone now.

There were no specific issues, I just wish the orthodontic treatment would finish soon.
