- Must gargle
after meal and even if you don’t eat, you still need to do so to keep your
mouth clean
-We teach
you how to gargle in detail
-We teach
you how to wear the band, apply iced/warm packs, and do walking exercise for
your swellings
|
Precautions after surgery
Posture
Please keep your head higher than your heart to help subduing the
swell faster. For a few days after the surgery, keeping your head high while
sleeping will help to decrease your swelling, snoring, and breathing.
Swelling
Keep
applying the iced pack until 48 hours after the surgery, when applying iced packs, it
should be applied symmetrically on your cheeks. Major bruises and swellings may be subdued within a week and more
in three weeks. From the third day of your surgery date change over to warm packs, as
cold packs help to prevent from swelling and warm packs help reducing the
swell. The time of swell subduing on both cheeks may be different and depending
on each patient’s conditions, swelling is also different. Thus, do not compare
your swell to other patients or worry as your swell will be completely subdued
over the time.
Skin care
You might get dry lips so please apply nourishing lip balms or use
humidifier or have wet towel near you so that it can help out the dryness. You
will feel your skin is stretching and tight from swelling and dryness. Our skin
cares at the dermatology will help you to improve these concerns.
Washing
face and bath
You can
wash your face and hair and take a shower after discharged from hospital. But,
try to avoid irritating strongly because your skin becomes sensitive after the
surgery.
Meal
You must
fast for 6 hours right starting from after surgery. After finishing fasting,
you can have some water. Until 2 days after surgery, it is better to have some
soft food, such as porridge and after that, you can start eating regular meal.
However, please try to avoid having some spicy, salty, or greasy food until
removal of stitches which is post-op week 2.
Medication
When
discharge from hospital, you will be given a prescription containing
antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, painkillers, and digestive medicines. It is
important to take medicines as instructed and regularly. If you have side
effects, such diarrhea or rash, please contact us. If you have anemia, it is
better to take iron for a month. You can have some oriental medicine a month
after the surgery
Mouth
disinfection and gargling
It is important
to rinse your mouth with disinfectant. To heal your wounds and prevent
infections, you should rinse your mouth at least 10 times after having some
food. First, rinse your mouth 7-8 times with pure water then use the
disinfectant. It is hard to close your mouth because your mouth is swollen so
when you gargle, keep water in the mouth and cover your mouth with your hand.
You should
gargle your throat also but it is more important to remove the food stuck in
between teeth and cheeks. It is the most important to gargle your mouth whenever
you have some food. Even if you do not eat anything, foreign substance may be
stuck between teeth so that it is better to gargle your mouth every 2-3 hours
to heal your wounds. Especially, be careful to care your mouth well for a week
right after surgery and please keep disinfecting your mouth until removal of
all the stitches inside of the mouth which usually takes 2 weeks.
Ear
symptoms
Feeling deafened ears like during flights or while climbing up a
mountain, may happen temporarily by swollen mouth. This condition improves
within a few days so you do not need to worry about it.
