Male Facial Contouring (V-line & Zygoma)
– Real Patient Review
Hello, this is id Hospital.
In today’s post, we would like to share a real Before & After review of male facial contouring surgery (V-line & Zygoma).
The patient who shared this story decided to undergo surgery due to prominent cheekbones, a strong angular facial shape, and a low nasal tip, which caused ongoing stress whenever taking photos.
After precise examinations and in-depth consultations with the surgeon, the procedure was performed, and the patient has continued to share detailed updates over a long period of time.
From the initial consultation to 7 months post-surgery, let’s take a closer look at this real patient journey.
Consultation Day
Main concern: Prominent cheekbones that caused constant stress.
No matter the angle—side profile, front view, or other perspectives—the cheekbones stood out the most and felt overwhelming.
After visiting id Hospital and completing a thorough examination, the consultation with the surgeon revealed that preserving part of the front cheekbone while refining the side cheekbone would significantly soften the overall facial impression.
Based on this explanation, the patient decided to proceed with surgery.
Although nasal surgery was performed at the same time, this post focuses mainly on male facial contouring, so details will center on that aspect.
Surgery Day ~ The Next Day
On the day of surgery, the patient arrived at the hospital after fasting, completed admission procedures, and finalized facial design with the surgeon.
Important surgical precautions were reviewed once again before entering the operating room.
Once inside the operating room, the patient recalls closing their eyes—and opening them to find the surgery already completed and being transferred to the recovery room.
Immediately after surgery, the strongest sensation was thirst rather than pain.
Having undergone nasal surgery as well, the patient realized just how valuable breathing through the nose truly is.
The next morning, nasal packing was removed, followed by CT and X-ray scans, and the patient was discharged.
To manage swelling, cold compresses were applied from days 2–4, followed by warm compresses starting on day 5.
1 Week ~ 1 Month Post-Op
At the one-week mark, nasal splints and stitches were removed, along with stitches near the sideburn area from the contouring surgery, followed by swelling care.
At two weeks post-op, the patient returned to remove intraoral stitches.
Although many reviews mentioned pain during stitch removal, it was manageable, and afterward eating felt much more comfortable.
At three weeks, radiofrequency treatment was provided.
Swelling changed noticeably day by day, bruising decreased significantly, and visible facial changes became easier to recognize.
Aside from very hard foods, the patient was able to eat regular meals without difficulty.
By the one-month mark, slight yellow bruising remained, but daily life was unaffected.
The patient focused on recovery through walking and warm compresses.
At this stage, a smaller face and softer overall impression became clearly noticeable.
As explained by the surgeon, facial contouring typically requires 3–6 months for major recovery and up to a year for residual swelling, making future changes something to look forward to.
2 Months Post-Op
At one month, swelling was still noticeable, but by two months, it had reduced enough for the patient to comfortably take selfies.
Compared to the one-month mark, results appeared much more natural—so much so that most people wouldn’t realize surgery had been done.
Mouth opening returned fully to pre-surgery levels, and selfies were taken using only a basic camera or light skin correction.
The contouring refined the face while preserving essential masculine lines, and the nasal bridge became more defined, creating a sharper yet natural appearance.
6 Months Post-Op
By five months, the patient was even able to travel comfortably, with no limitations compared to pre-surgery life.
Recovery felt nearly complete, and as time passed, residual swelling continued to fade, further enhancing facial slimness.
During the first month post-op, regular hospital visits were made for swelling care.
Now, warm compresses are only used occasionally when swelling is felt.
7 Months Post-Op
More than half a year after surgery, facial lines appear even more refined, with both contouring and nasal results settling naturally.
Even friends who were previously opposed to male cosmetic surgery commented that the results looked natural and well done—and now ask where the surgery was performed.
Personal Tips on Choosing a Hospital
Large hospitals and private clinics each have their advantages, but after surgery at id Hospital, the patient felt reassured by the systematic aftercare and safety protocols.
Meeting the right surgeon and achieving satisfying results made the patient confident that choosing surgery was the right decision.
This concludes the real review of a male patient who underwent facial contouring (V-line & Zygoma) and nasal surgery at id Hospital.
The most important factor the patient emphasized when choosing a hospital was safety, a priority that should matter to everyone considering surgery.
Male facial surgery differs from female surgery due to structural differences in facial bones.
Therefore, it is essential to check whether the surgeon is a facial bone specialist and how extensive their surgical experience and case history are. id Hospital began as a facial bone specialty hospital and became a pioneer in the field by performing Korea’s first pre-orthognathic surgery for prognathism in 2003.
As the first plastic surgery hospital to receive Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare certification, id Hospital has earned a high level of trust. Since opening, over 26,800 bone-related surgeries have been performed (as of June 2021), expanding into dermatology, dentistry, and regenerative medicine to become a global medical group.
Additionally, id Hospital has been certified by the Korea Record Institute (KRI) as the medical institution with the highest number of cosmetic surgeries in Korea.
*Research period: 4 years (May 2017 – April 2021)
- Over 60,000 surgeries across 7 fields, including orthognathic and contouring surgery
- More than 10,000 facial bone surgeries alone, including jaw and contouring procedures
