What is facial fat grafting and why do I need it?
Q. What is fat grafting?
A. Fat grafting, otherwise known as analogous fat transfer, is a simple process where fat cells are harvested from the stomach or thigh region (other parts are also applicable) then injected and grafted into the desired site. Usually the face, breasts, or buttocks area.
Q. Why would I want to inject fat into my face?
A. As we age, areas that were once plump and full of volume begin to either sag or become sunken, creating hallows in unwanted areas, ultimately leading to an aged face.
Through skilled hands, if fat is well injected into the area, the sunken areas can become more full and add dimension and volume to the face overall, creating a much more youthful, younger appeal for the patient.
Q. What are some common areas of the face where fat is injected?
A. For a bumpy, uneven forehead, the forehead may be considered one of the most common injection sites. Sunken under eyes and cheek hallows are also very common for fat grafting. All parts of the face can be injected for a more youthful, younger appeal.
Q. Will there be any visible scars?
A. No scars! None, actually. The only scars that will exist from this surgery will either be in your belly button or along your bikini line, so no one will ever know you had surgery!
Q. How long do I need to stay in Korea?
A. We recommend about seven days after the surgery date. This is because it takes about seven days for the stitches (on your thigh or stomach) to be ready enough to be removed.
Q. Will the fat stay on my face or will it reabsorb?
A. With fat grafting, blood vessels from the
injection side and blood vessels in the fat must be reestablished with blood
intake flow in order to survive. If it is unable to do so, the fat may tend to reabsorb
after recognizing that it is of its own.
Absorption is inevitable but in order to prevent it as much as possible, it is important that you follow our directions after surgery and avoid laying on your side, applying pressure, or rubbing it to vigorously during the first three months after surgery.
Q. Do you offer touch-ups?
A. Yes, of course! We offer free touch-ups within 3 months following the surgery date. Unable to come back to Korea? No problem! if coming to Korea a second time is difficult, our doctors will take
this into consideration during the initial surgery and add a bit more the first
time to cover any absorption. It's very common!
Q. Are there any side effects?
A. With procedure and surgery, there will always be potential risks/side effects including, but not limited to, asymmetry, bleeding, infection, resorption, fat necrosis, etc. Check with a board-certified surgeon who has the experience required for your best interest.
Q. Is this a common procedure?
A. Surprisingly, fat grafting is almost as common as eyelid and nose surgery in Korea. This is because the procedure is so simple with little to no recovery, yet offers such dramatic, anti-aging results. People from their mid 20s come to undergo this prcoedure for more dimension in volume in the hallows of the face, while others come for a more younger appeal.
Q. How long is the surgery time?
A. Less than an hour!
