No braces before the Orthognathic Surgery?
How its possible at ID Hospital
The old method of double jaw surgery
required [ braces before surgery – surgery – braces after surgery ] to be used
in preparation for the surgery, however with ID Hospital’s new, improved
method, [surgery – braces after surgery ] is all that is necessary
The old traditional method required an additional one to one and a half years of additional treatment for orthodontics, however, with the new method, surgery is done without the need of bracing before surgery and is only needed after surgery. Also, the patient will experience much less discomfort and pain with this advanced new method.
The words of Director Park Sang Hoon
The Introduction of the Surgery-First Approach Orthognathic
Surgery is revealed
"Prior to surgery, since the patients much undergo pre-surgery
orthodontics, the patient often feels stressed due to pain and discomfort from
long-period bracing.
Since some patients need to restore calibration in the alignment
of their bite, bracing prior to surgery can put stress upon the patients due to
discomfort from realigning the teeth to fit together. Often, this can make the
lower jaw appear more elongated since the bracing fixates the jaw to a certain
position.
For the sake of my patients, in 2003, I first performed the
Surgery-First Approach in this country. Even though others were against it and
said the decision was risky, the result was clear March 2004. "
